CPT and OPT
To work off-campus, F-1 student visa holders need to qualify for CPT and/or OPT. CPT (Curricular Practical Training) is work experience that is a component of your curriculum. OPT (Optional Practical Training) is work experience that is not a component of your program completion. Both CPT and OPT must be relevant to your program of study, and have separate authorization processes you need to fulfil before you can legally work in the USA.
